With the support of the Theatre Institute, issue 258 of the French theatre journal ‘Théâtre/Public’ has been published, devoted entirely to Polish theatre.
For the second time in its history, one of France’s most important theatre journals, Théâtre/Public, has focused on Polish theatre. In 2021, issue 240 was dedicated to the work and life of Krystian Lupa. In January of this year, issue 258 appeared under the title Scènes Polonaises. Both issues were conceived and coordinated by Agnieszka Zgieb, a translator and promoter of Polish theatre in France.
The publication is based on the idea of a dialogue between Polish and French theatre practitioners and theorists, whose perspectives provide the foundation for an exploration of the last 25 years of contemporary Polish theatre. Contributors to the latest issue include: Michał Borczuch, Piotr Dobrowolski, Tomasz Domagała, Victor Inisan, Katarzyna Kalwat, Chloé Larmet, Katarzyna Renes, Małgorzata Sikorska-Miszczuk, Olga Śmiechowicz, Michał Telega, Christophe Triau, Marcin Wierzchowski, Anna Wyrwik, Agnieszka Zgieb, Wojtek Ziemilski, and Marta Zięba.
The publication of issue 258 of Théâtre/Public was supported by the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, and the Polish Institute in Paris.
Théâtre/Public is a French theatre journal founded in Paris in 1974 by director Bernard Sobel. Published quarterly, it is one of the most important periodicals devoted to contemporary theatre in France and Europe. Each issue focuses on a specific artistic, social or political theme, examining it in relation to stage practice and theatrical life. Serving as a meeting space for artists, scholars, and audiences, Théâtre/Public fosters discussion on the role of theatre in contemporary culture. The journal publishes essays, interviews, performance analyses, and documents concerning theatrical life in France and worldwide. To date, more than 250 issues have been published. The current editor-in-chief is Olivier Neveux, a writer and professor of theatre history and aesthetics at the École Normale Supérieure in Lyon.
